look great too
Aesthetics treatments are not gender-specific, however, there are certain treatments which prove more popular with male patients featured below.
Dr Robinson is an expert in treating the male face with a special interest in men’s health and wellbeing. He has had multiple features in the press discussing the changing attitudes to male treatments. Treatments for men require an experienced and considered approach towards improving the unique characteristics that make up the male facial anatomy.
Male patients will frequently request sharper, wide-set features that look well defined or ‘chiseled’ when looking to accentuate their facial contouring. However, it is important to maintain a natural look.
‘Brotox’: Anti-Wrinkle Treatment for Men
There has been a significant rise in the number of men seeking botox treatments – so much so that the trending term ‘brotox’ has been coined!
Anti-wrinkle injections are used for relaxing fine lines and wrinkles on men’s faces while retaining masculinity and movement. It is a quick and easy treatment, usually taking about 15 minutes. often referred to as a ‘lunchtime procedure’ with no downtime afterwards.
Brotox treatments last approximately 3-4 months. Male patients will usually require an increased dose due to stronger muscle bulk in the face.
Lifestyle factors such as smoking, exercise, sun exposure and having a professionally-advised skincare regime can significantly alter these results. If you want to make the most of your treatments and your ££, then try to follow good skin health habits!
Masculinisation with Dermal Fillers
Masculinisation with dermal fillers involves a combination of treatment areas to achieve a traditionally perceived more masculine, defined face.
Treatment areas include:
CHIN AUGMENTATION: in terms of width and projection,
JAWLINE FILLER: strengthening the jawline to achieve a wider set jaw
CHEEK FILLER: Contouring the cheek bones for increased facial definition
NOSE FILLER: straightening the nose with a non-surgical rhinoplasty
Dermal fillers can be applied to the lips & tear troughs as well to replace the lost volume and hydration that comes with age no matter the gender. Well-placed, anatomy-based dermal filler treatments work with the natural structure of the face. A small, expertly positioned amount of filler at the concerning area defines the facial contours for a stronger, fresher and more youthful appearance.
Hair Loss Treatments
Dr Robinson is an industry leader in terms of non-surgical hair loss treatments. Hair loss is a concern which affects up to 85% of men by their 50s – the most common form is androgenic alopecia or ‘male pattern baldness’. This is because the hormone testosterone is converted into dihydrotestosterone (DHT). This hormone metabolite causes progresive miniturisation of hair follicles over time which progresses with age.
Fortunately there are many non-surgical options which can be used to slow, prevent and even reverse hair loss, particularly in the early stages.
PLATELET-RICH PLASMA (PRP) THERAPY: A revolutionary treatment that uses your own blood’s platelets to stimulate hair growth.
POLYNUCLEOTIDES TREATMENT: This innovative treatment uses polynucleotides to rejuvenate hair follicles, encouraging healthier and stronger hair.
PRESCRIPTION MEDICATIONS: Dr. Robinson can prescribe topical and oral medications tailored to your specific hair loss condition and needs.
Non Surgical Rhinoplasty
Non-surgical rhinoplasty for men, often referred to as a “liquid nose job,” is a minimally invasive cosmetic procedure that reshapes and refines the nose using dermal fillers instead of surgery.
This treatment is ideal for men who want to correct bumps, asymmetry, or irregular contours without the downtime or risks associated with traditional rhinoplasty. Using injectable fillers, Dr Ed can smooth out nasal humps, lift a drooping tip, or create a more balanced and defined nasal bridge.
The results are immediate and typically last between 12 to 18 months, depending on the filler used and individual metabolism.
For men, the goal of non-surgical rhinoplasty is to
ENHANCE FACIAL HARMONY while maintaining masculine features.
STRENGTHENING THE BRIDGE or straightening the profile to achieve a strong, balanced look rather than overly refining or slimming the nose.
The procedure is quicK, usually completed within 20 to 30 minutes and requires little to no recovery time, making it a popular choice for those seeking subtle yet impactful results.
While it cannot reduce the size of the nose or correct breathing issues, non-surgical rhinoplasty offers a temporary, reversible, and highly customizable alternative to traditional nose surgery.
Treatments for Excessive Sweating
While anti-wrinkle injections can be used as a muscle relaxing treatment, it is also effective for reducing excessive sweating. This is because botulinum toxin of which Azzalure and Botox are brands blocks the nerve supply to the sweat glands, effectively shutting down the sweating process in the target area.
Botox sweating treatment is a simple treatment that lasts for around 6 months and it can eradicate the embarrassment of underarm sweating, elevating your confidence.
Other common areas treated are Hands, Feet, Face & Head, Groin.
Skincare For Men
The growth of the aesthetics industry finds that treatments for male patients is becoming more of a demand; it is not just women who want to improve their appearance.
With everybody leading busy lives, skincare doesn’t have to be complicated or involve a large number of confusing products and really shouldnt take up more than 10 minutes of your day. An important part of daily male grooming, Dr Robinson can help you by prescribing products based your skin concerns and requirements. There are extra considerations to take into account with men’s skin.
TESTOSTERONE: Men have a significantly higher amount of testosterone which stimulates an increase in skin thickness by about 25%. Testosterone also drives increased oil production which can contribute to acne and breakouts.
COLLAGEN DENSITY: Men have higher levels of collagen. This is an important anti-ageing protein and forms the structural support which ‘holds up’ your skin. Collagen density declines with age but at a significantly slower rate compared to women. Many aesthetic procedures are aimed at replenishing collagen which can become an expensive game, so take advantage of this fact!
SKIN pH: Men have a lower than average skin pH due to excess sebum prodcution which can help maintain the skin barrier but also result in more congestion.
A skincare regime tailored to men should involve the following:
THOROUGH, DEEP CLEANSING: To remove excess oil and dead skin and environmental pollutants.
REGULAR, ADVANCED EXFOLIATION: to remove excess dead skin cells. Important to note that regular shaving is a form of exfoliation but youre probably not shaving your whole face and neck!
USE STRONGER ACTIVES & PRODUCTS: such as retinoids and vitamin C due to skin thickness and excess oil production.
MOISTURISING WHEN REQUIRED: To prevent moisture being lost from the skin (transepidermal water loss) and support the health of the skin barrier.
REGULAR USE OF SPF: to protect from UV which contributes to the ageing process (as well as skin cancer). This is not gender-specific but it’s too important not to mention!
A skincare consultation will involve analysis with the OBAGI OBSERV machine to provide bespoke, tailor-made recommendations based on the baseline state of your skin.
Chemical Peels are an increasingly popular treatment with our male patients as they work fast. Effectively these are in an in-clinic, stronger version of at home skincare exfoliators. We use them to to treat brown spots, fine lines, wrinkles, ingrown hairs, large pores (especially on the nose) and to address skin texture. There is also welcome side effect of a closer shave after treatment. These treatments can be adapted to suit the male facial structure, for consistently fantastic results.
