Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP)
Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) is a cutting-edge regenerative treatment that utilises the natural healing properties of your own blood to rejuvenate and enhance various aspects of your appearance.
PRP contains a concentrated amount of platelets, growth factors, and other essential proteins that promote tissue repair, collagen synthesis, and cellular regeneration. PRP therapy can be performed in combination with microneedling and polynucleotides for added effects e.g. the Vampire Facial.

Benefits of Platelet Rich Plasma
-
NATURAL SKIN REJUVENATION
PRP uses your own blood’s platelets to stimulate collagen and elastin production, helping to improve skin texture, tone, and overall radiance — all without synthetic ingredients or fillers. -
IMPROVED HEALING AND TISSUE REPAIR
The growth factors in PRP accelerate the body’s natural healing process, making it effective for reducing fine lines, acne scarring, and uneven skin texture, as well as supporting recovery after other aesthetic treatments. -
RESTORE VOLUME AND FRIMNESS
By boosting collagen from within, PRP gradually tightens and firms the skin, leading to a fresher, more youthful appearance over time. It can also be used to strengthen thinning hair and stimulate new growth in scalp treatments.

What to Avoid
Active skincare – Avoid using active ingredients (e.g. retinoids, acids) on the day of treatment.
Alcohol – Refrain from alcohol consumption for 24-48 hours, as it can increase the risk of bruising.
Strenuous activity & heat – Avoid exercise, saunas, and steam rooms for 24-48 hours to prevent excessive sweating, which may worsen bruising.
Hair products – Use only a gentle shampoo (preferably baby shampoo) on the day of treatment; avoid styling products until the area has settled.
Comfort and Recovery Tips
Over-the-counter antihistamines or anti-inflammatories can help ease inflammation and discomfort.
For scalp treatments, hair follicles need time to progress through their growth phase; results typically start to become noticeable after 4-6 weeks.
A course of 3-4 PRP sessions, spaced monthly, is usually recommended for best..
FAQs
For more general enquiries, please take a look at some of our frequently asked questions.
How long does PRP treatment usually take?
Treatment length depends on the individual but usually takes about an hour, including venepuncture, centrifuge time and injecting the PRP.
PRP may be combined with SkinPen microneedling which will therefore take longer (up to 90 minutes).
I can give you an idea of how long a treatment will take during your consultation.
What is PRP used for?
Plateler-Rich Plasma Therapy (PRP) uses the body’s own blood, spun in a centrifuge to separate it into the liquid part (plasma) and red blood cells. The plasma contains platelets and growth factors which play an important part in cellular recovery and wound healing.
As it is specific to the patient, there is no chance of an allergic reaction and PRP is very well tolerated.
PRP may be injected under the skin to rejuvenate the face and treat signs of ageing.
PRP may also be injected into the scalp to help support hair growth and combat hair loss.
There is a role in promoting scar and stretchmark healing although this is best done by combining PRP with SkinPen microneedling.
A ‘Vampire Facial’ involves SkinPen microneedling to the face, followed by topical application of platelet-rich plasma.
How should I prepare for PRP treatment?
Please come to the clinic without make-up as this will have to be removed if treating the face.
Ensure you are well-hydrated.
Avoid the use of skincare active ingredients on the day and stop any retinol-containing products 24 hours before-hand.
Avoid alcohol for 24 hours prior to treatment as this will increase your risk of bruising.
If undergoing scalp treatment, please ensure the hair is clean and free of hair products.
What does PRP treatment involve?
Platelet-Rich Plasma Therapy starts with venepuncture (having your blood taken). I use a small needle to facilitate this and cause minimal discomfort.
The blood will be collected in bottles which is then spun at high speeds in a centrifuge.
Once the blood has been spun, the PRP is extracted.
The treated area will be cleaned with anti-septic solution first.
A small needle will be used to inject the PRP into the skin or scalp.
How long does PRP treatments last for?
PRP treatments usually last for 4-6 months but sometimes longer. It is variable depending on the individual.
Lifestyle factors such as physical activity, smoking, alcohol consumption, recreational drug use and sun exposure will result in a shorter duration of action.
When will I see results?
PRP usually takes 4-6 weeks to have a noticeable effect, particularly the scalp as it takes time for your follicles to enter and pass through their growth phase.
Usually multiple PRP treatments are recommended initially on a monthly basis e.g. 3-4 treatments.
Mild swelling may occur initially which usually calms down after 48 hours.
What happens after treatment?
There is usually some mild inflammation which settles after 24-48 hours.
Over-the-counter antihistamines and anti-inflammatories can help calm down inflammation.
Avoid the use of active skin ingredients on the day of treatment.
Avoid alcohol-consumption for 24-48 hours as this increases your chance of bruising.
Avoid strenuous activity, saunas/steam rooms which may promote sweating as this increases your risk of bruising.
Avoid hair products apart from gentle shampoo (preferably baby shampoo) on the day of treatment.
How much does PRP treatment cost?
Platelet-Rich Plasma Therapy starts at £350 per treatment but discounts are available for multiple treatments. You will be advised on a price based on your bespoke consultation.
Does PRP treatment hurt?
Platelet-rich plasma treatments may be somewhat uncomfortable but usually not painful.
As an anaesthetic doctor I am well placed to reduce anxiety and pain during procedures using a number of techniques.
Numbing cream may be applied before the procedure, although usually this is not necessary.
Are Anti-Wrinkle treatments suitable for men?
Absolutely! Platelet-rich Plasma Therapy is a popular treatment for men and has been shown to be effective for alopecia and androgenic hair loss (male pattern baldness).
Is PRP treatment safe?
In the hands of an experienced, medically trained injector PRP therapy is a safe, well-studied treatment and side effects are rare.
PRP is extracted from the patient’s own blood products which occur naturally in the body.
PRP may not be used in patients who are pregnant or breastfeeding.
Are they any side effects?
Most common side effects are mild and short-lived. As a trained medical professional, I am well positioned to minimise these risks.
Side-effects include:
-
Bruising or swelling at the site of injection
-
Infection
-
Scarring
