Aesthetic Concerns After Weight Loss
Achieving significant weight loss is something to be celebrated, whether it has been through lifestyle changes, bariatric surgery, or weight loss medications such as Ozempic® or Mounjaro®. Reaching a healthier weight often brings improvements in overall wellbeing, confidence, and long-term health. However, some people find that while they feel healthier, their face looks more tired, hollow, or less defined than they expected.
Rapid weight loss can sometimes lead to facial volume loss, reduced skin elasticity, and loose skin. These changes are commonly referred to online as “Ozempic face” or “Mounjaro face”, although they are not caused by the medication itself. Instead, they occur because fat is lost from the face alongside the rest of the body, which can alter facial contours and reduce the support beneath the skin.
At Dr Ed Robinson Aesthetics, we understand that every face responds differently to weight loss. Rather than recommending a single treatment, we take a personalised approach to facial rejuvenation. Following a detailed consultation, we assess the changes that have occurred and create a bespoke treatment plan designed to restore facial balance, improve skin quality, and address skin laxity while maintaining natural-looking results.
Understanding Facial Ageing After Weight Loss
The face naturally contains fat pads that provide structure, support, and youthful contours. As weight is lost, these fat pads can reduce in volume, making the cheeks appear flatter, the temples more hollow, the jawline less defined, and lines or folds more noticeable.
At the same time, the skin may not tighten as quickly as the underlying tissues change. As we age, collagen and elastin production naturally declines, meaning the skin becomes less able to adapt to changes in facial volume. This can result in loose skin after weight loss, particularly around the cheeks, jawline, and neck.
Every patient experiences these changes differently. Factors such as age, genetics, skin quality, the amount of weight lost, and how quickly it occurred all influence how the face responds. Some people notice only subtle changes, while others experience more significant facial ageing after weight loss.
Our aim is not to reverse your weight loss or dramatically change your appearance. Instead, we focus on restoring harmony and supporting your natural features with treatments tailored to your individual concerns.
-
LOSS OF FACIAL VOLUME
Reduced fullness in the cheeks, temples, or lower face following rapid weight loss can leave the face looking hollow or less supported. -
LOOSE SKIN AFTER WEIGHT LOSS
Skin around the cheeks, jawline, or neck may appear less firm as the underlying tissues change more quickly than the skin can adapt. -
REDUCED SKIN ELASTICITY
Lower collagen levels combined with facial fat loss can make the skin feel thinner, less resilient, and less able to bounce back. -
MORE PROMINENT LINES & FOLDS
As facial volume decreases, existing lines and folds may become more visible, particularly around the nose, mouth, and lower face. -
LOSS OF JAWLINE DEFINITION
Changes in facial volume and skin firmness can soften the jawline and reduce facial definition. -
A TIRED OR HOLLOW APPEARANCE
Many patients feel that their face no longer reflects how healthy they feel, with a more drawn or fatigued appearance despite successful weight loss.
