What conditions can Benign Lesion Removal help with?

Moles

Benign mole removal is a straightforward medical procedure in which a doctor numbs the area and carefully removes the lesion, often using techniques like shaving, excision, or laser, primarily for cosmetic reasons or to prevent irritation, while ensuring the tissue is non-cancerous. Samples are sent for independent histology to determine the exact type of lesion to rule out malignancy.

Lesions

Benign lesion removal is a minor medical procedure in which a we numb the area and removes the lesion, using methods like excision, cauterization, or laser, typically for comfort, function, or cosmetic reasons after confirming it is non-cancerous.

What to Avoid – Following Surgical Removal

• Getting the area wet for the first 48 hours
• Swimming, hot tubs or submerging the area in water for two weeks
• Strenuous exercise for 2-4 weeks, depending on the treatment area and your doctor’s advice
• Picking at scabs or healing tissue
• Excessive sun exposure while the area heals

Comfort & Recovery Tips – After Laser Removal

Mild redness, swelling or crusting may occur following treatment but typically settles within a few days. Healing times vary depending on the size and location of the lesion being treated.
Protecting the area with a broad spectrum SPF during healing can help minimise pigmentation changes and support the best cosmetic outcome.

Comfort & Recovery Tips – After Surgical Removal

It is normal to experience some redness, swelling, tenderness or bruising following surgery. Stitches may be required depending on the type and location of the lesion removed and will be reviewed or removed at a follow up appointment where appropriate.
While the wound itself usually heals within a few weeks, scar maturation continues over several months. Protecting the area with SPF can help minimise visible scarring during this process.
Once fully healed, additional scar optimisation treatments may be available if required. Your practitioner can discuss suitable options based on the appearance and location of the scar

What is benign lesion removal?

Benign lesion removal is a minor dermatological procedure used to remove non cancerous skin growths such as moles, skin tags, cysts, or keratoses following a specialist assessment.

Does lesion removal hurt?

The area is numbed using local anaesthetic, meaning the procedure is usually comfortable with only mild pressure felt during treatment.

Will the lesion come back?

Most lesions are permanently removed. However, some types of benign lesions can recur over time depending on the underlying skin condition.

Will there be a scar?

Any procedure that removes a skin lesion can leave a small scar. Dermatological techniques are used to minimise scarring and achieve the best cosmetic outcome.
