Changes in moles or new skin lesions can be worrying. While many are harmless, some changes can indicate underlying concerns, including early signs of skin cancer.
At Dr Ed Robinson Aesthetics, mole checks are carried out by Dr Alex, our dermatologist, providing expert assessment, reassurance and clear guidance on next steps.
Understanding Moles & Skin Changes
Moles and skin lesions are extremely common, and the majority are completely harmless. They can vary in size, shape and colour, and often remain stable over time without causing any issues.
However, some changes are not always easy to assess on your own. Knowing what to look for, and when to seek expert advice, is key.
Key factors to be aware of include:
-
CHANGES IN APPEARANCE
A mole that alters in size, shape or colour over time can indicate abnormal activity within the skin and should always be assessed. -
IRREGULAR BORDERS OR ASYMMETRY
Moles with uneven edges or an irregular shape may require closer examination, particularly if they differ from your other moles. -
VARIATION IN COLOUR
The presence of multiple colours within a single mole, such as different shades of brown, black or red, can be a sign that further assessment is needed. -
NEW MOLES IN ADULTHOOD
While common in younger years, new moles appearing later in life should be reviewed to rule out any underlying concerns. -
SYMPTOMS SUCH AS ITCHING OR BLEEDING
Moles or lesions that itch, bleed, crust or become sore should not be ignored and may require medical assessment.
