FAQs

For more general enquiries, please take a look at some of our frequently asked questions.

How long do Profhilo treatment usually take?

Treatment length depends on the individual but usually takes about 30 minutes.

I can give you an idea of how long a treatment will take during your consultation.

What is Profhilo used for?

Skin boosters such as Profhilo and Teosyal Redensity 1 are similar to dermal fillers in that they are hyaluronic-based and injected under the skin.

The main difference is that they do not add volume to the skin, but rather increase collagen and elastin to improve skin quality, giving a younger, fuller appearance.

Hyaluronic acid occurs naturally in the body and is therefore usually very well tolerated!

Profhilo may be used to rejuvenate the face and treat signs of ageing but can also be used on the neck, decollete, hands, abdomen and knees.

Skin Boosters such as Profhilo are well combined with botox anti-wrinkle injections.

How should I prepare for Profhilo treatment?

Please come to the clinic without make-up as this will have to be removed.

Ensure you are well-hydrated.

Avoid the use of skincare active ingredients on the day and stop any retinol-containing products 24 hours before-hand.

Ensure you have not had any aesthetic treatments such as micro needling less than 2 weeks before-hand.

Avoid alcohol for 24 hours prior to treatment as this will increase your risk of bruising.

What does Profhilo treatment involve?

Profhilo is usually well-tolerated although some injections are slightly less comfortable than others. Numbing cream is usually not required.

The area will be cleaned with anti-septic solution first.

A needle technique will be used to inject Profhilo under the skin.

Profhilo is injected into 5 points on each side of the face. Skin Boosters such as Redensity 1 involve many more injections and numbing cream is usually required. However, added benefit is gained from the microneedling effect which stimulates further collagen production.

Aftercare will be applied to reduce inflammation after treatment.

How long do Profhilo treatments last for?

Profhilo lasts for approximately 6 months and requires 2 initial treatments 4 weeks apart.

Teosyal Redensity 1 also lasts approximately 6 months and requires 3 initialy treatments 4 weeks apart.

Lifestyle factors such as physical activity, smoking, alcohol consumption, recreational drug use and sun exposure will result in a shorter duration of action.

When will I see results?

The results from skin boosters are normally noticeable after 1- 2 weeks. The result is more subtle than dermal fillers. Maximum results will be seen after the initial treatment course is completed.

Mild swelling may occur initially which usually calms down after 6-12 hours.

What happens after treatment?

Due to the injection process there is usually some extra inflammation which settles over 6-12 hours.

Over-the-counter antihistamines and anti-inflammatories can help calm down inflammation.

Avoid the use of active skin ingredients on the day of treatment.

Avoid alcohol-consumption for 24-48 hours as this increases your chance of bruising.

Avoid strenuous activity, saunas/steam rooms which may promote sweating as this increases your risk of bruising.

Do not apply excessive pressure to the filler for the first 24-48 hours.

How much does Profhilo treatment cost?

Profhilo is £275 for 1 treatment or £500 for the first 2 treatments.

Does Profhilo treatment hurt?

Skin Booster treatments may be somewhat uncomfortable but usually not painful.

As an anaesthetic doctor I am well placed to reduce anxiety and pain during procedures using a number of techniques.

Teosyal Redensity 1 contains lidocaine (local anaesthetic) to anaesthetise the areas injected.

Numbing cream is not usually required for profhilo but is recommended for Redensity 1.

Are Profhilo treatments suitable for men?

Absolutely! Profhilo treatments for men are increasing in popularity.

Are Profhilo treatments safe?

In the hands of an experienced, medically trained injector Profhilo is a safe, well-studied treatment and side effects are rare.

Skin Boosters are hyaluronic acid-based which occurs naturally in the body.

Skin Boosters such as Profhilo are not suitable for patients who are pregnant or breastfeeding.
