Entering Autumn: How to Revitalise your Skin

With temperatures starting to drop, our largest organ especially feels the chillier weather.

Our skin is typically described as “glowing” in the summer, but here’s some tips on how to get more of an ‘autumnal glow’.

Adjust your Cleansing Routine & Moisturiser

To revitalise your skin following a busy summer, switch to a gentle cream cleanser and a richer moisturiser to combat dryness. Make sure ingredients with the likes of hyaluronic acid and ceramides are included to replenish your skin barrier and lock in moisture.

I’d also recommend gently exfoliating once or twice a week to remove dead skin cells without stripping the skin’s natural barrier.

New Incorporations to Consider

Add a Vitamin C serum to repair sun damage that might’ve occurred over the summer and to brighten skin. This can help prevent your skin from looking dull and tired.

For healthy, balanced skin, you should add in a hydrating toner or serum before moisturising. This way, the toner can provide hydration and then the moisturiser can create a protective barrier on the skin to lock in that hydration and prevent moisture loss.

Applying a hydrating skin mask at home once or twice a week can also provide concentrated moisture and repair.

I’d also suggest adding a facial oil to your skincare routine for extra nourishment, especially as heating can dry out your skin. Facial oils can reduce pigmentation while delivering a dose of antioxidants and essential fatty acids that promote skin regeneration.

Our hands and lips also need to lock in extra moisture during the colder months. Opt for a hand moisturiser with ingredients like shea or cocoa butter to protect your hands from the dry, cold air.

Choose a lip balm with SPF to tackle dryness and chapping, avoiding long-term damage. And nicely leading into the next point…

Don’t Forget: Apply SPF Daily!

Unlike UVB rays, which cause sunburn and are strongest in the summer, UVA rays are present all year-round and can penetrate clouds and glass. These rays can damage skin cells and contribute to ageing.
