Autumn Nighttime Skincare Routine

As the autumn nights get colder, our skin is in more need of hydration. It can also appear drier, duller and be prone to breakouts. The drop in temperature, reduced humidity and indoor heating can strip the skin of its natural moisture, leaving it dehydrated and sensitive.

Autumn is the perfect time to refresh your nighttime skincare routine to help restore radiance and strengthen the skin barrier.

1.        Gentle Cleansing

Start with a hydrating cleanser. As the weather cools and humidity drops, the skin loses moisture more easily. A gentle cleanser will remove impurities without damaging the skin’s natural barrier.

Look for cleansers that are free from harsh sulphates and include ceramides and hyaluronic acid. The Obagi Nu-Derm Gentle Cleanser is an excellent option for hydrating and cleansing the skin.

2.        Exfoliate

Post-summer skin can feel fatigued and uneven. Incorporating exfoliation into your autumn routine once or twice a week can help you achieve a smooth, rejuvenated complexion.

Opt for chemical exfoliants like lactic acid or PHA, which are gentler on the skin than physical scrubs.

3.        Use Actives

With less UV exposure during autumn, it is an ideal time to re-introduce active ingredients like retinoids into your nighttime routine. These help with cell turnover, improve texture and support collagen production.

Despite the UV index decreasing; it is still essential to wear daily SPF to protect your skin from the signs of ageing and skin cancer.

4.        Rich Moisturiser

The colder weather and reliance on central heating really dehydrate the skin. A richer moisturiser packed with glycerine, ceramides and hyaluronic acid will help lock in moisture and support your skin barrier.

Consider products which contain peptides to further nourish and repair the skin overnight.
